The Wish
Inspired by the collaborative vision of composer John K Miles and writer/presenter Claire Henry The Wish is a fresh, new interactive young persons guide to the orchestra.
The work was commissioned and co-produced in 2017 by Orchestras Live, Luton Music Service and City of London Sinfonia. The Wish is unique in its approach to introducing the instruments of the orchestra. The presenter, audience and orchestra share the role of performer in an exciting and collaborative way.
The show is ideal for orchestral family and schools concerts and can also include additional pre-concert workshops. There is a comprehensive online resource pack for the show available including classroom activities, sheet music, audio and video.
The primary objective of The Wish is to introduce orchestral instruments, in an inspirational way, to 5-8 year olds at the beginning of their musical journey. In addition to this there is an opportunity for older, gifted and talented young musicians to play alongside the professionals. A variety of differentiated parts are potentially available.
The Wish, in conjunction with Orchestras Live and the Luton Music Mix, has been shortlisted for Outstanding Classical Music Education Initiative in the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence 2019.
